We don't accept that

What are you accepting? Are you even aware?

We often think it’s only our actions that create our environment – but inaction can have as significant an impact for all of us. I’ve recently been reminded that allowing is accepting – and I thought I should discuss it with you too. Earlier this week I facilitated training on Difficult Conversations – trying to help managers with those conversations none of us ever want to have. It might surprise you to know that I shied away from training any ‘soft’ skills for a while; given all of the […]

My Voice, Success and Celebrating Growth – It’s My 400th Post People!

When I started this blog in October 2011, I had no idea how it would turn out. I had no idea how My Year of TED would go, and whether I could sustain the blog throughout that period – let alone continue to blog for another four years. Of course, there have been times when I wasn’t blogging consistently. That is true of many bloggers throughout their blogging life. But to have made it to 400 posts is quite shocking for me. I’ve been trying to think of […]

pull back

Forgetting to pull back for balance

My three words for 2016 are Be, Push and Pull – but I’ve been forgetting about the Pull. I’ve been so busy promoting books, writing books and facilitating that I haven’t made enough time for my own balance. It’s not all bad, since I’m keeping up aerial circus, which is a great balance for me. But after our first real break in too long, I realised that I need to create more rest time. Pull back with friends We had a wonderful short holiday in Western Australia recently. […]

An update on Asking, and when people say no

Okay, I will preface this by saying if you are new here then you need to understand I don’t shy away from admitting that I am a very broken person – I think we all are in our own ways. Since completing My Year of TED, I’m far less broken than I used to be, but this post might not be the best one to convince you of that. Actually, it should be a great post to convince you of that since I’m willing to admit this to […]

2015’s Three Words – Build, Strong and Focus

It’s that time of year again, well actually it is a few days past that time of year, but who’s counting 🙂 After much deliberation I’ve settled on three words that will drive my actions and activity for 2015. Last week I reviewed 2014’s words (Brave, Calm, Connect), and I was pretty happy with how well these words helped me define 2014. So what are the magic words for 2015? I decided that this year was about building on the successes of last year, improving my resilience and […]

Revisiting the Lessons – Activities 3 and 4

Better listening – what I forgot I don’t know why I forgot how much I enjoyed the three minutes of silence from Better Listening, or even listening to mundane sounds – but I did. The participants of the course quickly reminded me of how soothing this activity can be, as they all enjoyed trying to improve their listening. I hadn’t forgotten Julian Treasure’s work completely, after all I shared details about one of his more recent talks a few months ago. But I had forgotten that daily process […]

A different way of viewing your Inner Critic (and the external ones)

You know that horrid little voice in your head that confirms all of your doubts about yourself and your abilities – it is your inner critic, and we all have one. I don’t know about you, but mine was particularly scathing and nasty. She was my loudest internal voice, and she did not miss a beat when she had a chance to remind me how badly I had messed something up. I’ve spent a lot of time, since finally learning the skill of self-compassion during My Year of […]

10 Universal Truths – a guest post on DumbLittleMan

There are so many things falling into place in my life at the moment – which unfortunately proves that putting in the work is the only way to make things happen. You’ll find out more in the next couple of months. What I wanted to quickly share was that today I had an article published on Dumb Little Man – 10 Universal Truths That Will Set You Free. These are revelations and realisations from My Year of TED, so I wanted to share the article with you as […]

Money, Mastery and Meaning – a great quote from James Altucher

I subscribe to James Altucher’s Insider’s List. He sends some amazingly insightful snippets into my inbox. Today was a brilliant piece about the three ways you can be paid – money, mastery and meaning. This was my favourite quote and, given that I am about to embark on the challenge of being my own boss, has become my new wallpaper: Just thought I would share that one with the rest of you. Hope you are all having a 3M kind of day. This article is © Copyright – All […]

The good, the bad, the ugly… and the brave

If you are a regular reader you will know that I have been on anti-depression meds since January this year, if you are not a regular reader this probably still won’t be a massive surprise. I mention this because a few weeks ago I decided it was time to see if I could start tapering off the meds, I started this on my birthday. So the last couple of weeks were going to fun anyway, but then there was so much more going on. The Good We moved […]
