My Three Words for 2022 - I Forgot to Share

You know how I've been doing My Three Words to set intentions for the year since 2012 - sharing what they mean and then reflecting on them every year, for TEN YEARS! Well, it appears that I entirely forgot to reflect and share this year. The new year was a difficult time in many ways, so it probably makes sense. Plus, I did share my three words on the bullet journal video for January, which made me feel like the job was done.

So, let's resolve that...

If you haven’t read anything on my three words before, it comes from Chris Brogan and you can read his 2018 post for more details. I find it’s a great way to set my intentions for the year, they help keep me focused. In previous years the words were:

  • 2016 – Be, Push, Pull

  • 2015 – Build, Strong, Focus

  • 2014 – Brave, Calm, Connect

  • 2013 – Creating, Connecting, Consolidating

  • 2012 – Do, Share, Inspire

  • 2021 – Flourish, Breathe, Dare

  • 2020 – Create, Grow, Well

  • 2019 – Aware, Brave, Creative

  • 2018 – Balance, Structure, Grow

  • 2017 – Structure, Serve, Write

Reflecting on 2021

Flourish - I feel this was a successful focus for me in 2021. My creative skills continue to grow - my confidence and competence in this area. Combined with this, the creative growth in my business has developed quite successfully over the last year as well. Having Flourish as an intention helped me keep my focus on growth and development in my skills and business, but in a way that felt light and didn't create pressure.

Breathe - this was a little less successful for certain periods of the year. I largely managed to create pockets of rest and keep my workload at an appropriate level, but there were some activities I should have said no to that ended up creating stress. Maybe I should have made No a word for 2022... something to think about for next year.

Dare - for the most part, I feel I did live this word for 2021. Sharing my bullet journal videos, putting myself out there a bit more, owning the creative part of my business more and backing myself to stop the other work I'm not enjoying to give space for that creative business to grow are some examples. I did not publish THE book, but that was largely because I came up with the great idea of sketchnote reflecting on the whole Year of TED project for the 10 year anniversary. That means THE book moves to the end of this year - yikes!

My Three Words for 2022

I don't think this needs a lot of explanation. It's going pretty well at the moment, but there are always areas to focus on improving. So, now my brain can rest a bit knowing that this is done. Did I need to post it all? Potentially not. But since I've done it every year for a decade it seemed a bit strange not to, once I noticed the gap.
