30 Days of Compassion - 10 Years On

Let’s just pretend that this is not a year late… okay? This is the second last reflection sketchnote for My Year of TED. I will get Balance done during September and then work on pulling all of this together into some sort of book - let’s see what we end up with.

Compassion was based on three TED Talks, but largely focused on Karen Armstrong’s Let’s Revive the Golden Rule (and content from her book). I did also include Chande-Meng Tan’s Everyday Compassion at Google and Daniel Goleman On Compassion to flesh out more thoughts on ways to be more compassionate. The launch post explains how they all influenced the activity. Below are the outline and reflection sketchnotes:

How this has evolved

I’m still not as compassionate as I would like to be, but I do feel this is an area I have continued to develop since My Year of TED. Reflecting on this at the moment has been a bit challenging for me though. I have had a bit going on and I definitely still become less compassionate when my stress levels are high. But mainly it’s made me think about what I feel compassion truly is, and where it fits into empathy, support etc.

It’s also been a lovely reminder of the very simple lesson from my entire Year of TED - what you focus on is what becomes important! And doing externally focused activities was definitely a wonderful lesson in how to improve my relationships and interactions with others. Great reminder!
