My three words for 2013

As mentioned the other day, I've been preparing my three words for 2013. I did this in 2012 for the first time and really felt that it was a very successful activity to undertake, so I'm going again for 2013.

How to decide?

This required a process of writing down what was happening this year and the things that I want to achieve this year.

Fortunately they fell quite naturally into three groups. I then chose a words that I felt represented these groups, and it appears I have a 'c' theme this year - Creating, Connecting, Consolidating.

Creating

There are a number of things that I want to achieve this year that involve creating things. This includes writing (continuing this blog and trying to get this all in a book), continuing with the Do-Pad and enhancements, developing literacy tutoring material and setting up our new house, particularly my creative space.

Connecting

One of the areas I was lacking in this year, and it really runs to the core of my personality, was an ability to really market and develop an audience for my work. Now I shouldn't be too harsh on myself since I have had almost 3,000 visitors on this blog since it started in late 2011, but I didn't do as much as I could have done. So this year I need to work on finding a tribe and improving my connection with it. This is essential as part of marketing the material I am creating, but also because this is an area I felt lacking in and I don't like that feeling.

As a part of this I am hoping to participate in organising the TEDx event in Hobart in 2013, which will be much larger than the one held this year. I think this will be a great way to at least develop a local tribe and improve local connections.

Consolidating

Finally, 2013 will be a year to consolidate everything that I have learned and discovered throughout my Year of TED, and other things in 2012. This will include consolidating my skills as a literacy tutor, and achieving the culmination of planning and building over the last five years as we move into our new home.Having said all of this, I will continue to keep the ideas of Do.Share.Inspire. in my approach to 2013 as well. I really connected with these words and I feel they have become part of the person I want to be.Happy New Year everyone, and I wish you all the best for a wonderful 2013!
