Forgetting to pull back for balance
My three words for 2016 are Be, Push and Pull - but I've been forgetting about the Pull. I've been so busy promoting books, writing books and facilitating that I haven't made enough time for my own balance. It's not all bad, since I'm keeping up aerial circus, which is a great balance for me. But after our first real break in too long, I realised that I need to create more rest time.
Pull back with friends
We had a wonderful short holiday in Western Australia recently. For those of you who don't know Australia very well, Perth is over five hours flying time from Hobart - it is the other side of the country, and two hours behind. So even though we've done a bit of travel this year, we had a timezone shift this time as well.It was a great chance to catch up with friends we haven't seen for a while, and for me to meet some of the people Derek knew at University as well. We had a wonderful time talking and catching up on each other's lives - it was a lovely reminder that there are some people in your life that you can not see for six years, but slip back into conversation with like it was only yesterday.Derek and I also celebrated our 12 year anniversary the day we flew home - after spending the day before on Rottnest Island. The photos below are from our quokka encounters of the island, and some of the lovely scenery. I know this isn't my standard post, but it's where my head is at right now - after pushing so hard for the last five months I'm finally having a decent period of pulling back to recharge. Maybe it's also due to being tired from the trip, but I think it's because I've allowed my brain to slow down for the last week and calm down for the first time in quite a while. Anyway, I'm sure I will be back to normal next week, for now I'm a bit chilled about it all.
Pull back for creativity
Interestingly, I got to read for pleasure with the long flights. I can highly recommend Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane - I mean it's Neil Gaiman so you're in very good storytelling hands anyway. It is a lovely story in the weird Neil way :-) the best thing for me is that it has inspired me to finish the fiction book I started last year. I don't have enough time for it, and I don't know that I can actually write this thing, but I'm excited to try and finally get this story out. I'll keep you posted, and you can keep me accountable.
