My three words for 2014

It's almost 2014, which means it's three words time again - if you don't know want this means then look at last year's post or the year before that. The three words is a Chris Brogan thing, and this year I've stepped it up a notch by joining his Brave New Year program as well.I felt like a needed to have more support this year, because I am planning a big one this year. The planned activity list for the first half of 2014 is currently:

  • speak at TEDxHobart - which I am extremely excited about
  • fully launch dinkylune as a business - which includes completing my manifesto
  • finish the memoir of My Year of TED
  • develop my 90 Days of TED program

The Three wordsSo for 2014, my three words are BRAVE, CALM and CONNECT. I thought that My Year of TED was the bravest I would ever have to be, but I've realised that was just the beginning of the process.Since the project finished I've been continuing to step further and further away from my comfort zone, so I have to continue to be brave.Looking at the short list above, I think that you can understand the need for bravery this year - and the quote.

Given that I spent most of 2013 medicated for depression, this is going to be an important part of 2014. I could have chosen a myriad of words to explain this, but for some reason calm resonates with me.This is about making sure that I find a way to not let all this bravery stress me out - that I remember to take the time to be calm.

The final word for 2014 has taken a while for me to settle on but I decided that I still need to do more around connecting with people - given that I am starting a business. The is about developing more of a community around My Year of TED, and subsequently dinkylune. From this community, my hope is that I can develop clients for the products that I will be producing.Connection does also relate to the people around me as well, and ensuring that I maintain connections with my friends and family. So this is what 2014 is looking like for me. I highly recommend the three word process, particularly as a replacement to New Year's resolutions. It is about how you want to live and where you want your focus to be - rather than picking things that might not be working in your life.Do any of you do the three words process? I'd love to know what your three words are if you do.
